SKUSA MOUNTAIN REGION NEWS UPDATE:

SKUSA MOUNTAIN REGION READIES FOR 2010 DEBUT
Tuesday, 4 May 2010

First of four weekends set for inaugural season in Colorado

LOVELAND, CO (May 4, 2010) – A new era is set to begin for karting in the state of Colorado and the surrounding regions. The new Superkarts! USA Mountain Region Series will make its debut on May 7-8 at the Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado, bringing the SKUSA ‘attitude’ back to this hot bed of karting. The event will be the first-ever kart race held at the 13-year old motorsports venue, which will make Pikes Peak’s amazing facilities available to the karting community. Outside the confines of the oval, a 9/10-mile temporary circuit on a smooth 12-acre parking surface will be utilized for the opening weekend of the SKUSA Mountain Region Series.

The series and the event will be guided by a number of veterans within the sport. The track layout has been designed by Rocky Mountain Kartworks’ AJ Noud, a seasoned shoe behind the wheel, not to mention a former SuperNationals race winner. On-track activities will be overseen by race director Curt Kistler, who also has a strong karting resume, and he will be working with the newly formed Pikes Peak Kart Racing Club to man the corners, scales and other key positions. Angie MacEwen will operate the timing & scoring duties, as she has for a number of SKUSA SuperNationals, the new Pro Tour and other Colorado regional events. Superkarts! USA Technical Advisor John Motley will handle the technical inspections for the event, keeping everyone on the safe and fair line. SKUSA Director of Operations Stan Bryniarski will also be on-hand to assist the SKUSA Mountain Region crew with on-track duties. To round out the special attendees, Superkarts! USA CEO Tom Kutscher will be trackside to provide support for the new region while handing out the podium awards at the end of the racing action.

“I’m very excited to be heading to Colorado next weekend to begin the new SKUSA Mountain Region,” stated Kutscher. “We have had a number of supporters at the SKUSA SuperNationals from the state and most recently at the SKUSA Pro Tour debut. It’s time we return the favor by offering the type of regional racing that we provide in other sections of the country to the Rocky Mountain area.”

The event will kick-off on Friday, May 7 with a full day of practice. From sun-up to sun-down, 10-minute sessions will take place for the categories competing on the weekend. Following the on-track action, the series will host a SKUSA-style tri-tip barbeque with free beverages, thanks to the series supporters. Saturday will be race day with practice, qualifying, two heat races and the main event for the eight categories competing. The categories offered will mirror that of the Superkarts! USA class structure; S2 (Semi-Pro Stock Moto), S3 (Novice Stock Moto), S4 (Masters Stock Moto), S5 (Junior Stock Moto), TaG Senior, TaG Master, TaG Junior, and a local option Cadet category.

A unique viewing option will be available for the event as the Pikes Peak facility will be opening up the spotter’s deck on the main grandstands for race viewing. A short elevator ride to the summit of the 12-story building will offer a first of its kind viewing option of a kart race. Sure to be taking photos from the viewing deck will be Mitch Bowers of Imagewerx.us, named the official photographer of the SKUSA Mountain Region Series Round 1 event.

As the SKUSA MR team enters into the final planning stages, things are falling into place very nicely. We continue to work closely with the PPIR staff and all the great people within the newly formed Pikes Peak Karting Club based at PPIR. Challenges quickly become opportunities when the three organizations put their heads together.
Please look below to find hotel information, and click here for round #1 registration forms. There will be registration packets waiting for each team as they roll into PPIR on Thursday afternoon May 6th, or first thing Friday morning May 7th. Our friendly registration folks will guide everyone through the process of getting tires, fuel, oil, wrist bands and local information. Everyone will also be given the entire race schedule showing all the daily activities including the Free Dinner plans for Friday afternoon. Steak, wine, beer and assorted other non-alcoholic beverages will be provided to all participants and family members as a long standing SKUSA race weekend tradition.
PPIR will have plenty of trailer parking and some very good spots for the early registrants. Do not delay in getting your registration forms faxed or mailed in. If extra trailer space is required above the 10’X30’ that comes with your registration fee please let us know so we can accommodate the “Big Rigs” or teams. Also included in the base entry fee is Test-N-Tune time for all day Friday. Practice tires can also be purchased on our registration form along with additional fuel and oil.
A food vendor has been selected that will be providing good eats all day Friday and Saturday located adjacent to the race track surface. Hot or cold, wet or dry, the banquet facility will be a great place for hanging out with other families, drivers, friends and sponsors. The banquet facility will also be the place for driver meetings and general assemblies as required throughout the event.
Thursday and Friday evenings the Crowne Hotel Plaza will be the place to find SKUSA folks hanging out at Ricks Tavern, the pools, hot tubs, exercise facilities or at one of the restaurants.
Please note the date changes to round #1. We will not be racing on Sunday May 9th out of respect to Mothers Day and by popular request. The remaining three rounds will all be based on a full Friday practice days and full schedules on Saturdays and Sundays.

Sincerely,
The entire SKUSA MR Team

Superkarts! USA Expands National Program to Cadet Level
Friday, 05 March 2010 12:09
Hot on the heels of the confirmation of the 2010 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour schedule, the organization is now focusing its attention on the opening round of the series – the inaugural ‘SpringNationals’ – which will kick things off on the April 16-18 weekend at the Jim Russell International Karting Center in Sonoma, CA. The newest piece of the puzzle has now been confirmed as SKUSA officials are excited to announce the expansion of their class structure, with the positioning of a new TaG Mini ROK class for drivers between the ages of 9-12. This class will be run as part of the Pro Tour this season, thanks to a support program that has been put together by SKUSA and Vortex, the engine’s manufacturer. This effort will be backed by a fleet of complimentary engines for the first two rounds of the series, motor packages offered for overall weekend race winners and a supported trip to the ROK World Cup for the Pro Tour champion.

The new announcement of the TaG Mini ROK program is big for SKUSA and comes following an extensive research effort by the organization’s technical team, which saw the crew test several different powerplants over a period of several months. In an effort to open the door to all karters, SKUSA went on a search for the correct racing package for the Cadet-aged drivers, eventually deciding on the 60cc Mini ROK – which will be debuted on the national level in 2010 with its inclusion in the Pro Tour and the SuperNationals. It will also be available as a local option with SKUSA’s regional programs, should the support warrant a class on the schedule. In 2011, the TaG Mini ROK will be introduced as an official Superkarts! USA category, both nationally and regionally. This engine has been in production for seven years and has a very tight spec, aggressively limiting the work that can be done. The specs will also be locked in for at least three years. Read more
