SKUSA MOUNTAIN REGION NEWS UPDATES:

SKUSA Mountain Region Race #3 ~Grand Junction Motorspeedway~ August 22nd, 2010
Thursday, 29 July 2010

As we have all officially reached the half way point of the 2010 Karting Season, many Regional Class Championships are taking shape. Series Points

Coming off the Summer Nationals in Shawano (shaw-no) Wisconsin, many Colorado racers showed up and contested against very strong fields from across the US. MyLaps Results

This was a true test for our local drivers of what is stacking up to be the best Supernationals in Las Vegas SKUSA has ever hosted. It looks like Colorado will be well represented this November, and should be our best chance for podiums since the years when drivers like Noud, Walls, Welch, Carrio, Bailey, Scarberry, Olmstead, Cook & a host of other talented Mountain Shifters put Colorado on the map. The entire SKUSA MR staff is very proud of the talent levels of the drivers our state has produced as our region continues to grow. If you have not made your registration or hotel plans for Vegas as of today you may have already missed the boat. Last report has the Rio filling up fast, and the fields filling up faster. For more information go to www.superkartsusa.com and follow the links to Vegas. Please follow the local breaking news at this site as well. New classes have been added for the remainder of this season that allows for all ages, and all shifter motors, a place to hone your skills.

Round #3 is scheduled for Grand Junction Motorspeedway on August 22nd, with the 21st set up for test & tune. The registration form will be located at www.gjmotorspeedway.com very soon. Hotel information will be posted at their web site as well. For anyone who has never driven a kart at this facility, you do not know what you are missing. This is one of the fastest, smoothest and finest facilities in the US, ran by some of the best people our sport has to offer. The weather should be perfect for karting and pool side fun at the local establishments for some late summer fun before school gets too serious. With a full crew of professional staffers from both organizations, SKUSA MR & GJMP, this event promises to be safe, fun, run on the clock and exciting.

Please drop us any questions you may have at www.skusamr.com and we will look forward to seeing everyone in GJ.

Sincerely,
The SKUSA MR Crew

SKUSA MR adds 3 new Shifter Classes
Wednesday, 30 June 2010
Heading into round #3 scheduled for Grand Junction on August 22nd, the SKUSA MR Team has decided to add (3) new shifter classes. These classes will be added for developmental and recreational purpose only. At each of the last two SKUSA events, and the PPKRC event at PPIR, we have been approached by several interested parties trying to find a way into shifter racing. We have been trying to get as many people back into karting as possible, as well as capture new karters interested in racing shifters. After many conversations, and several searches, we have decided to add the following classes:

Cadet Shifter: 60cc, any mfg. motor, 9 – 13 years old, 260 lbs., open tires, open fuel and oil. This class is designed for the “never driven a shifter before” student. The class will qualify, run heats and mains just like the SKUSA classes, but will not be running for championship points. We want to keep it simple, fun, and mainly affordable.

JR. Shifter: 80/85cc, any mfg. motor, 12 – 15 years old, 320 lbs., open tires, open fuel and oil. This class will allow drivers and tuners the opportunity to learn about all aspects of racing a shifter, and be a great stepping stone to the very popular S5 SKUSA class. Just like the Cadet class, the JR’s will run a full race day schedule.

Open Shifter: + 16 years old. It is just what it states. Open everything; run what you brung, built motos, open ignitions, 2 or 4 stroke shifters, 1,2,3,or 4 cylinders… Open everything. Full race day schedule if you can keep it together. No minimum weight, no tech.

As with all SKUSA events, safety will be looked at very seriously in all classes. All karts will be inspected for all safety wires, connection points, weights, catch cans and everything else the regular SKUSA classes are required to meet, including driver gear.

There are 60cc and 80cc shifter karts wherever you look along the Front Range. This may even spur the classified ads to perk up with resurrected sales ads over the next few weeks. Many of us started in 60cc shifters and worked our way up to 80’s then onto 125’s. Shifter racing can be affordable, fun, safe and very competitive. If anyone has any questions pertaining to these new classes please contact us at www.skusamr.com. Currently there are available shifter kart packages at all the tracks, shops and private parties within Colorado. If you are looking for something specific just drop an ad on the classified section at www.thecoloradokarter.com or www.coloradokartracing.com. Or if you have some 60, 80, 85 or open stuff lying around, now is your opportunity to generate some sales.

We are looking forward to watching these exciting classes grow as the SKUSA MR continues to grow. The entry fees will also be affordable. We are trying to keep it as affordable as possible to see if shifter racing is right for you.

Article by SuperKarts! USAThe second round of the Superkarts! USA Mountain Region took place this past weekend (June 19-20) under perfect Colorado weather at the very fast IMI Motorsports Complex in Dacono. Topping the result sheets at the end of the weekend were debut victories by Matt Kistler and Rory Mackey in the competitive S2 and TaG Senior categories while Christian Schurman scores win number two on the season in S5.

Taking a two-year lay off of racing for college, the talented local shifterkart driver returned to make his debut at the SKUSA MR program in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto. His debut put him at the top of the time sheets as he secured the pole position with a 51.656-lap, over two-tenths quicker than Cory Milne and Christian Bird. Kistler went flag-to-flag in both 10-lap heat races by a comfortable margin over Milne with round one winner James Michael Sullivan and Sabre Cook each running third. The 20-lap main event was all Kistler as he led each lap to score the victory by 12-seconds over Cook with Milne taking the final podium spot over Logan Jones and Sullivan.

The newest piece of the puzzle has now been confirmed as SKUSA officials are excited to announce the expansion of their class structure, with the positioning of a new TaG Mini ROK class for drivers between the ages of 9-12. This class will be run as part of the Pro Tour this season, thanks to a support program that has been put together by SKUSA and Vortex, the engine’s manufacturer. This effort will be backed by a fleet of complimentary engines for the first two rounds of the series, motor packages offered for overall weekend race winners and a supported trip to the ROK World Cup for the Pro Tour champion.    Read more
